Yuko Sakurai proudly reports the following (We are proud of you too, Yuko!!):
Biking is a great way to explore the Niagara Region which has diverse landscapes and an abundance of historical sites. During the Labour Day weekend, I joined 8 of my former high school classmates on a biking trip to Niagara Falls. Some wanted to bike from Toronto to the falls, but that is about 160km – too much for some, including myself who is not a regular biker. Therefore, we compromised by starting in Burlington which was still a 108km bike ride.
Our trip took us through Hamilton Mountain, St. Catherines, and along the wine region of Niagara-on-the-Lake to our destination, Niagara Falls. This route was surprisingly flat, except for a couple of hills on the Niagara escarpment. All 8 of us made it to our destination in 5hrs and 15 min. The photo below is an iconic “Made it to Niagara Falls!” picture of myself. Talk about a sense of accomplishment!
In case you are wondering, no we did not bike back. We took the Bike Train operated by GO Transit back to Toronto. The Bike Train is equipped with bike racks and caters specifically to cyclists. It runs throughout the summer months between Toronto and the Niagara Peninsula. If you are ever in Toronto, I encourage you to take a day trip out to Niagara Falls by bike. Yuko did it!
